Dr Shelley Cavezza

Dr Shelley Cavezza PhD, a research scientist at the University of Sunshine Coast, has been working collaboratively with Dr Hale since 2016 after she completed the certificate in ‘Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice’ in the United States (Institute of Functional Medicine). She has also completed graduate training in Human Nutrition at Deakin University in Victoria, Nutrigenomics, and Personal DNA profiling. She is a key member of the Hale Health Medicine team, undertaking functional nutritional and nutrigenomic assessments. She supports patients in making lasting, sustainable lifestyle and dietary upgrades in order to return to health.

Dr Cavezza has a PhD in Medicine from the University of Sydney and has over 20 years of experience as a Principal Research Scientist, publishing over 80 scientific papers. She grew up in New Zealand, then completed her undergraduate and post graduate studies in Australia. She worked in Darwin for 15 years at the Menzies School of Health Research – an institute focused on improvements in Indigenous Health. In 2009, Dr Cavezza moved to the Sunshine Coast and took up her current position as Associate Professor in Immunology at the University of the Sunshine Coast. She has particular interest in autoimmune conditions, gut and related mood issues, healthy aging, and teaching patients’ about the importance and power of nutrition and lifestyle in tackling their condition.
